On to safety concerns: Embryonic stem cells have only been used for less then a decade, mostly by scientists doing research in lab animals. No one really knows what secondary diseases or cancers may arise 20 years or so down the line. Umbilical cord blood stem cells have been used for over 40 years in the treatment of leukemia with virtually no secondary diseases or cancers.

در مورد ملاحظات ايمني: سلولهاي پايه اي جنيني تنها كمتر از ١٠ سال است كه مورد استفاده قرار ميگيرند، بيشتر هم از طرف دانشمنداني كه بر روي حيوانات آزمايشگاهي پژوهش ميكردند. هيچكس واقعا نميداند در اين روند چه بيمارهاي جانبي يا سرطاني ممكن است در طول ٢٠ سال آينده نمايان شوند. سلولهاي پايه اي بند ناف به مدت ٤٠ سال است كه بدون هيچگونه بيماريهاي جانبي و سرطان، جهت درمان بيماري سرطان خون بكار ميروند.
