بيماريهاي ويروسي مشكل بسيار عمده اي است كه در ايالت ميسوري گندم را مبتلا ميكند. اين بيماريها معمولا علائمي را سبب ميشوند كه از ساير بيماريهاي واگيردار متمايز است. معمولترين علائم قابل رويت عبارتند از كوتاهي، شخم بيش از حد، و انواع خطوط روي برگ، لكه، موزاييك، كلروسيس (زرد شدگي)، نازائي و بسياري علائم ديگر كه شناسايي آن بسيار دشوار است.
